Hello there fellas! Have you discovered anything new about our beloved bees? I feel specially happy this week cause last Tuesday I celebrated my birthday, so this week post will be extra special.
Have you ever heard about “dancing bees”? Well, as you already know all the member bees from a hive work together in order to create what makes our toasts cheerful: honey! In order to, our lil’ workaholics take scouts roles and go out of the hive looking for some flowers and nectar. And when a bee finds a golden treasure of fields with blossoms, she certainly wants to communicate and show it to her sisters. And even though it sounds weird, she does that by dancing!
With choreography of moves and buzzing, a bee tells her sisters the direction in which the flowers are, and how far they are. I could certainly explain you the whole move, but this deep voice will make the work for me: here you have the called “waggle dance” …
Apparently our friends will never stop surprising us. Can you imagine designing a whole dancing system so you could communicate with your friends just my moving yourself? Sounds like fun! (As I really like dancing)
Ohh! And by the way we can certainly add dancers and choreographers to our list of bee roles , not to mention mathematicians again … wonderful!
This is all by now bee lovers! See you next week.
PS. I’m preparing a new bee challenge … so keep in touch :]
Hey Danyel!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, congratulations for your B-Day! Hope you have had a marvelous day. :D
Now talking about the bees, WOW!! I mean it is so great they use a dance to communicate between them!! I had never thought bees did this and it is pretty interesting how they add math with the dance...who would have thought these little fellows had such great minds and organization systems?
I am realy impressed of all the stuff you have been posting on your blog it is all new and interesting :D Keep up the good work and I am looking forward for the next challenge. ;)
Hello Danyel
ReplyDeleteThere is always something very interesting every time that i pass around your blog, as i was saying, i didn't know that bees share a common interest with you; dancing!! Cool! Now i see why you love to talk about them. On the other hand, it was not a surprise to see you relating these kinds of things with math; you love math, but i still have the question of who found this mathematical relationship, didn't he have anything to do?
I mean, how could a simple dance could indicate the direction with its specific angle and the distance of which is located their treasure, that it just amazing.
Now i see why this was a special topic eh?.. math, animals, dance... enough.. let the bees suffling!
Thank you danyel for your work and effort, i'll see you around
i like trains
I think your topic is original because I didn’t know about the bee dance which is very fun. In fact bees can communicate to other bees the distance, direction, quality, and quantity of a food source with a unique dance for example, as you said that a bee tells her sisters the direction in which the flowers are.
ReplyDeleteAlso I found more information about the bee dance that honey bees are able to accurately describe the location and the quality. All this communication is done through dances and sounds.
There are two types, which are:
The "round dance" indicates a food supply that is near the hive.
The "waggle dance" indicates a food supply that is farther away.
The direction of the straight run communicates the direction of the food in relation to the sun. The honeycombs in the hive are vertical to the ground.
Finally if food lies in the same direction as the sun, the foraging bee dances straight up. If it lies in the opposite direction of the sun, the bee dances straight down. If it is to the left, the bee dances at the appropriate angle to the left.
I like to put all this information because I was really interested in the topic so I searched some important facts about it.
